Yesterday, a Bronx judge threw out the manslaughter indictment of Richard Haste, the NYPD, cop that murdered Ramarley Graham.  First this cop murders Ramarley in the bathroom of his home.  Then, only after protests and outpourings of anger is Richard Haste, the killer, indicted but on manslaughter charges four months later, not murder.  And now, even these charges have been thrown out!!!  The judge ruled that the prosecution had given improper instructions to the grand jury.  Here we go, again.  The prosecutors have no problem filling the prisons with 2.4 million mainly Black and Latino people, but when the cops murder one of us they forget how to prosecute.

This murder was so outrageous: The police pursued Ramarley into his own home, busted through the front door, went into the bathroom and shot him point blank... and then made up a whole story about how Ramarley was running into the building and was armed. All of what the police say was clearly shown to be a complete lie.  And now the charges have been thrown out.  This is nothing but another message that the police have put a target on the back of young Black and Latino men and it is open season to murder them.  This must STOP.

Yesterday, after the charges were thrown out, I went up to the Ramarley Graham family home in the Bronx.  I joined with family, friends and a few other people that live in the area.  A member of the Stop Mass Incarceration Network drove from Connecticut.  About 16 of us gathered in front of the 47th NYPD Precinct with a banner that read “Justice for Ramarley Graham”.  The Graham family spoke bitterness, calling out Richard Haste for murdering their son and the other cops for covering it up, and vowing to not stop protesting until Richard Haste is in prison.

The Family of Ramarley Graham posted a call on Facebook:

Mass Incarceration + Silence = Genocide Act to STOP It Now!
A Dialogue Between Cornel West and Carl Dix

(see promo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n97dVYxA2Mw&feature=youtu.be)

Why?  Because if you hate the way the police are killing our children like Ramarley Graham and so many others, if you cannot stand that the prisons are being filled with mainly Black and Latino people, if you are angered by the way are youth have been demonized and criminalized and then mass incarcerated or murdered by the police or racist vigilantes, then you need to be there to hear why all of this is happening, what can and must be done to stop it, and why you need to be a part of doing this.  This is serious and we are serious about building a national movement to stop the New Jim Crow and the slow genocide of mass incarceration. You can make this happen.

Demonstrate on Saturday and come to hear Cornel West and Carl Dix on Monday.
