TO OUR FRIENDS
MOBILIZE! THIS SATURDAY FEB 25! MASS MEETING 2-5PM
AT CHILD WELFARE ORGANIZING PROJECT (CWOP) 80 E 110TH ST BTWN MADISON AND PARK
The Stop Mass Incarceration Network invites you and everyone you know to a mass meeting to discuss the future of our movement to Stop Stop + Frisk! This is your chance to participate in one of the most important political projects happening in NYC: mass resistance to NYPD terror.
STOP STOP + FRISK update
The NYPD has killed three black men and been filmed beating another in the last three weeks. (Two of these murders were by off-duty cops.)
Jatiek Reed was beaten by officers from the filthy 42nd Precinct in the Bronx one day before our demonstration there, but video of the beating, taken by his friend, hadn't yet been released to the public; the video of this vicious gang assault by NYPD officers would not emerge for three more days. No justice, no peace.
Ramarley Graham was executed by incompetent, racist white cops from the 47th Precinct. The murder took place in his own bathroom, his grandmother and 6-year-old brother nearby. It happened on a quiet residential street in the Bronx, in Wakefield, a predominantly West Indian neighborhood. It all started with a Stop, Question, and Frisk. We joined with local residents to protest this heinous murder on several occasions.
In the meantime, we are defending ourselves against criminal charges stemming from civil disobedience actions. Additionally, last week two members of our group were arrested at Bronx Criminal Court for defending another of our members against racist remarks by a white court cop. Bronx Criminal Court officers are unprofessional, vindictive, and out of control; we also witnessed them assaulting and arresting a woman who was doing nothing but talking loudly. They made us remove and voucher all of our Stop Stop + Frisk buttons upon entering the courthouse; other pins and buttons were allowed. (Isn't that against the law or something?)
On Saturday February 18th, Carl Dix, who co-issued the call to Stop Stop + Frisk with Cornel West, spoke on the subject of mass incarceration and genocide at Riverside Church in Manhattan. Hundreds attended.
March will be a busy month. Please help us plan it this SAT FEB 25th!! @ CWOP 80 E. 110th St, between Madison and Park (6 train to 110th St.)
The Stop Mass Incarceration Network was formed in 2011 by Cornel West and Carl Dix, among others, to address racist, illegal, and abusive NYPD practices. Stop Stop + Frisk holds the NYPD accountable with community support, a holistic critique of the Prison Industrial Complex, cop watch, and civil disobedience.
